Renovation Demonstration Project

AVHBA was awarded the Renovation Demonstration project for the Atlantic Region in February 1996. This project, sponsored nationally by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Natural Resources Canada and the Canadian Home Builders' Association, showcased professional renovations that created a healthier indoor environment, improved energy efficiency and reduced the environmental impact of renovations. AVHBA chose seven projects by six builders, ranging from replacing siding and adding exterior air barriers for increased energy efficiency to addressing poor indoor air quality in a house where a child with asthma lives. Some of the renovations showcased were actually phases of larger, long-term plans laid out by the homeowner and their professional renovator.

"A professional renovator can identify problem areas," states Terry Watters, coordinator of the project, " then suggest quality solutions and help prioritise and plan a renovation project in phases so you end up with a more comfortable, healthier home, reduced fuel bills and less stress on your wallet."

Hiring A Renovator

Renovating is a balancing act between what you want and what you can afford, what is 'do-it-yourself' work and what best left to a professional. A professional renovator will help you create an overall vision of what you want to do and develop a plan that suits your budget.
